Welcome to 3rd Trimester!

Dear Parents and Students:

To kick off the last trimester, students will be reviewing prepositions (including memorizing a list of 47 in order) and interjections. With the trait of fluency being the writing emphasis, knowing how to start sentences with prepositional phrases will add variety and interest to essays. Students will receive their preposition list on Monday, 2-28 and will need to have them memorized by Thursday, 3-10.

Starting Tuesday, 3-7 students will write an expository essay based on the novel Deathwatch by Robb White. Expository means to show or explain, so students will explain how Deathwatch is an example of literary conflicts. This writing piece is due on Monday, 4-4. Students will have eleven class periods to complete their essays besides having time for library and lab experiences. Concerning points, the essay is worth 100, so submitting it will make a huge difference in the overall grade.

Afterwards, students will begin reviewing for the CRT (state assessment) followed by a joint project with science.

Thanks for all the hard work thus far and carry on ,

We're Having a Novel Time

Dear Parents and Students:

We are currently in the middle of Deathwatch (class novel), so three assignments have been completed thus far: "Desert Survival", creative word search, and questions for chapters 6-9. Be sure to check Powerschool for any missing assignments. Starting next week, students will be responsible for working on their "Maps of Life" which will be due the first week of February. Assessments for Deathwatch will be a project (50 pts.) followed by an expository essay (100 pts.) where students will need to provide evidence of conflicts.

During the week of February 7---11, students will be reviewing and taking the second trimester assessment in the computer lab. Scores will be available by Monday of the following week.

As always, students should continue their home reading of two hours per week. I check for parent signatures every Monday (parent signature, book's title, and number of pages read).

Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Munro (Cougar Fan)
