Poetic December:

Dear Parents and Students:

Looks like we are in the home stretch of 2009! During the last three school weeks of this year, our focus will be poetry and the trait of Voice for language arts. Be prepared to read, analyze, create, share, and most of all---enjoy poetic verse. The following are the agenda and due dates:

1) Tuesday (12-1): Students receive poetry portfolio information including requirements, choices, instructions, examples, and grade options.

2) Wednesday (12-2)----Thursday (12-17): Students will create two required poems (bio and 2-Voice) and have choices from a list of 22 types of poetry (examples are included). If a student desires an "A" grade, he/she must prepare 10 poems; for a "B" grade, 8 poems will be created; and if a "C" grade is chosen, the student submits 5 poems. Besides the total number of poems, quality work also counts. Each poem will need illustrations as well.

3) Friday (12-18): Students share their 2-Voice poem plus one of their choice before turning in their poetry portfolios (100 points possible).

As always, students are expected to continue their outside reading and come prepared on Mondays with title of book, number of pages read, and parent signature in the student planner. Doing so will earn students ten points. For those who decide to read over Christmas break, they will receive ten points extra credit to kick off 2010!

Thanks and as always------How about those Cougars on Saturday (11-28)?!
